Alkaline Water Filter

Water can be high or low in pH, but if it is too high or too low, it can have adverse effects. Water that is too alkaline has a bitter taste. It can cause deposits that encrust pipes and appliances. Highly acidic water may corrode metals or even dissolve them.

Water that’s naturally alkaline occurs when water passes over rocks, like springs and picks up minerals, which increase its alkaline level. The process can be enhanced if the rocks and soil have been broken up for any reason, such as mining or urban development. Limestone contains especially high levels of calcium carbonate and when used to decrease acidity in homes can runoff in the surface waters and increase alkalinity.
